Music is a popular theme for many of our activities here at Maristhill, and for good reason. As you may know, research in music therapy supports its effectiveness in a wide variety of healthcare and educational settings.
Nine of our activities this month will involve music, including sing-alongs, Name that Song games, some wonderful performances by several talented musicians and, of course, music therapy sessions.
The American Music Therapy Association defines “Music Therapy” as the “clinical and evidence-based use of music interventions to accomplish individualized goals within a therapeutic relationship by a credentialed professional who has completed an approved music therapy program.”
Music therapy interventions can be particularly effective for seniors, and are designed to:
- Promote Wellness
- Manage Stress
- Alleviate Pain
- Express Feelings
- Enhance Memory
- Improve Communication
- Promote Physical Rehabilitation
